Painting en plein air is a collaboration between the energizing, inspirational, unpredictable forces of nature and the artist. Working outside in the elements tends to make one work fast, and a kind of grace can happen. In the studio I try to "stop before I'm finished," which is to say, before the piece is done to death. The dreamlike aspect comes from an idealised, Edenic sense of nature. I would so like myself and others to slow down and enjoy the view. The landscape gives us Food for the eyes, body and spirit.
