Painting en plein air is a collaboration between the energizing, inspirational, unpredictable forces of nature and the artist. Working outside in the elements tends to make one work fast, and a kind of grace can happen. Pastels are perfect for this, with their directness and ease of use. In the studio I try to "stop before I'm finished." The dreamlike, fantasy aspect comes from an idealised, Edenic sense of nature. I would so like myself and others to slow down and enjoy the view.
